rained out

Well, we were rained out of our plans.  My family came up/down for the weekend/nite and we all gathered to go to the Blue Stars Drum Corps.  Drum and bugle corps was a tradition in my family.  We would grab our seat cushions and our sweatshirts and blankets and head off the The Phantom Regiment, our local corps at the time.  Even as a young person I remember getting teary-eyed and full of goose pimples when the Phantom would come out horns blasting and drums banging and vibrating.  I never knew how nostalgic I would become as an adult.  But now here we are, my brother and I,  sharing drum corps with our own respective families.  Now we become Blue Stars fans because that is our local corps, and our parents came to join in the tradition.  But, alas, we were rained out.  A disappointment, but I have to say, seeing all of my family together...is such a welcome sight, that I was kind of okay with the rain as we sat on the porch with our little cocktails, twinkling outdoor lights, watching the rain and telling stories about our younger drum corps days.  Sometimes I really appreciate a broken plan, even when it means you miss a great event.  Having family and friends around makes the most broken set of plans, become something new.
