Sunset and Servant Leadership
I chased down this sunset the other night. I kept looking for it and then I almost gave up and then I came around a corner and this pink sky opened up in front of me. Sometimes the sky can still surprise me. The next morning I was out the door before sunrise. I attended a Servant Leadership course where we started the day with a moment of silence. The instructor suggested we think of all of those that had worked to put out coffee and food for us and helped to make this morning happen. I sat and thought about those individuals. The sixteen people in the room were silent and the room was motionless for a minute or two. Then we talked for two hours about Servant Leadership, this particular type of leadership where you serve others and lead from behind. One of the instructors referred to it as a dance...where you are stepping in and stepping out continuously. I thought about this dance that we do at work and then another kind of dance at home and in our community and also in relationship to our beautiful landscape here in La Crosse, WI. We can serve in so many ways by listening and being present. When we had that moment of silence, I thought about the connection between work, home, community and this incredible local landscape of ours....and for that moment I just felt gratitude.

Colors! Love.
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos. If I am remembering, Servant Leadership is connected to Parker Palmer and the Quaker pathway. Some good thoughts.
ReplyDelete@Parker, It sure seems like Parker Palmer philosophy.
